Origin Story

Burmese ruby at its finest produces the pigeon's-blood red with strong chromium fluorescence that sets the market standard. Mozambican material often shows vivid, highly saturated red with its own fluorescent quality. Thai ruby tends darker and more brownish; Sri Lankan material toward lighter pinkish tones; Tanzanian and Malagasy stones frequently show purplish modifiers.

Elemental Detail

Before the international 925 standard gave it a formal threshold, silversmiths were already alloying silver empirically to address a durability problem they observed in pure material. Pure silver is too soft to hold forms or settings through wear, which is why it required a copper addition to produce the durability required for wearable pieces.
