Luster in a pearl is not a matter of shine. It is a matter of structure, and the Akoya's nacre crystalline formation, produced by saltwater oysters in Japan and China, is simply denser than what any other cultured pearl type achieves.
Industry Insight
Natural and cultured pearls are made of the same material, nacre, and differ only in how formation began. Natural pearls form when an accidental irritant enters a wild mollusk, and cultured pearls begin with a deliberate nucleus implant. The oyster does the same work in both cases.
Heritage & History
Ross-Simons opened in 1952 with a specific purpose: helping people find jewelry they love. More than seventy years later, the same purpose is running. What accumulated in between is a working knowledge of what matters, what lasts, and what earns customers who come back across generations.
