Nephrite's fibrous interlocking structure gives it exceptional toughness; jadeite's interlocking granular crystals produce a slightly different density and translucency. Visually similar, but so structurally distinct.
Meet The Maker
The adoption of the charm format by major jewelry houses marked a categorical shift in how the form was perceived. By producing individual charms in high-karat gold with precious stone settings and positioning them as standalone fine jewelry at corresponding price points, houses elevated the charm from souvenir format to a vehicle for high-craft miniature jewelry work.
Visually Speaking
The visual weight relationship between rondelle and primary bead registers in wear. A small rondelle disappears into the strand's rhythm and the bead leads; a larger rondelle asserts its own presence, and the strand reads as an alternation between two roughly equal elements rather than a primary bead sequence with structural intervals. The scale ratio is the design decision; everything else follows.
