Persian tradition, Hebrew scripture, Christian theology, Buddhist iconography. Four completely different worldviews, but the sapphire shows up in all of them carrying the same meanings of wisdom, truth, fidelity, and divine favor.
Stone Story
At Mohs 9, second only to diamond and the same hardness as sapphire, ruby resists surface abrasion at a level most colored gemstones don't approach. The corundum crystal structure that produces that hardness allows ruby to maintain its polish and surface quality through daily wear in rings, bracelets, and all contact-prone applications without the protective-setting qualifications softer stones require.
Origin Story
Origin is a meaningful variable in emerald selection: Colombian stones set the benchmark for warm, saturated green; Zambian material reads cooler and more bluish; Brazilian stones occupy their own color profile. The differences are visible and affect both price and personal preference.
