The heart's communicative power is inseparable from its formal simplicity: two symmetrical curves meeting at a point, a silhouette readable at any scale and in any material, the form legible at the distance across a room where more complex symbols require proximity to be identified, the geometry doing most of the symbolic work before the material or setting adds anything to it.
