Bail design developed as jewelers recognized that pendant hang quality is an engineering problem as much as an aesthetic one. The loop angle, attachment position, and opening width each affect how the pendant's center of gravity aligns with the chain's contact point. The fitting's geometry determines whether the piece hangs as the designer intended, or compensates for a fitting that wasn't considered in relation to the pendant's proportions.
