A Storied Heritage
The dragonfly being the signature Art Nouveau motif followed from material suitability. It was easy to replicate iridescent wings with technically advanced enamel work, and the naturalistic form suited the movement's rejection of geometric abstraction. Famous French jeweler Rene Lalique's dragonfly pieces combined plique-a-jour enamel, carved horn, and precious stones, becoming the definitive interpretation of the creature.
