Of all the protective symbols in jewelry, two have crossed from cultural talisman to global fine jewelry motif most completely: the horn and the evil eye. Both originated in Mediterranean apotropaic tradition, are often worn together, and have traveled far enough from their origins to be recognized and worn by people with no direct connection to the cultures that created them.
