Stone Story

Color-change garnets have two color relationships with light instead of one: a daylight appearance and a separate incandescent appearance, both produced by the same stone. That optical behavior is rare enough in fine gemstones to be worth seeking out.

Skilled Craftsmanship

A figure-8 safety can often be added after the fact: a skilled bench jeweler can retrofit one to many existing clasps, compatibility determined by whether the clasp geometry accommodates the additional closure point, worth asking about for any high-value piece currently secured by a single-point primary clasp.

Industry Insight

Box clasp and push button clasp are distinct closure types despite sharing a similar exterior format. The box clasp releases when a tab is retracted from a square housing. The push button releases when an internal mechanism is triggered through a flush surface button. Both are barrel-style closures, but the release systems they use are not the same.
