The deeper story

Industry Insight

Cable, curb, rope, box: these are the standard formats. Anything whose link design departs from them falls under the fancy chain designation. It's a category defined by departure from the norm, where the link pattern gives the chain its own named or proprietary character. The term has held that meaning for as long as the category has existed.

A Storied Heritage

Hook and loop closures are among the earliest fastening solutions documented in the jewelry archaeological record. Present in ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman times, the mechanism's advantages were the same as they are now. The reliable closure from a curved hook engaging a fixed ring, achievable with minimal material quantity and fabrication steps, and functional across a wide range of piece types and weights.
