A Storied Heritage
The diamonds that reached Indian royal courts from the Krishna and Godavari alluvial deposits were uncut. They were used as talismans and set in their natural crystal form because the technology for faceting diamond did not develop until the 15th century in Europe. The shift from rough to faceted changed how diamond's optical properties were expressed, and with it, how the stone was understood and valued.
