Tanzanite Jewelry

Beneath the snows of Kilimanjaro in wilds of East Africa comes the magnificent tanzanite. Arriving to the jewelry market in the late 1960's, tanzanite is heralded by the world's foremost jewelers — including Ross-Simons — for its vivid purple and blue color scheme. The color of royalty in ancient Rome, regal purples radiate from tanzanite in hues that dress the most fabulous jewels.

Tanzanite Gemstones: African Royalty

4.30 ct. t.w. Tanzanite Dome Ring in Sterling Silver #844676

Look for fresh finds and exclusive one-of-a-kind tanzanite rings in our Estate Jewelry Collection. Some of finest stones are captured in vintage pieces from the late 20th century. Our jewelry designers will often pair tanzanite with diamonds for wonderful pendants and necklaces set in 14kt gold.

The color of royalty emerges in Ross-Simons' tanzanite jewelry. Deep blues, vivid blues, and a hint of red. Tanzanite owes much of its beauty to an unusual gemological property called pleochroism, the ability to exhibit more than one color. When viewed from different directions, tanzanite can look blue, violet, purple, bronze or gray. Tanzanite's royal colors make it a great accompaniment for diamonds, and our buyers love matching purple and blue tanzanite with 14kt yellow or white gold. Also, clever collectors of vintage jewelry can find some wonderful tanzanite rings from the 1970's in our Estate Jewelry Collection. As stones larger than 1 carat are quite rare, our buyers will pair tanzanite accents to enhance the range and depth of color in tanzanite necklaces and pendants. The most astute jewelry collector will notice that even in small stones, tanzanite jewelry has an enchanting and beguiling radiance.

A new and rare discovery (1960's) that captures magnificent shades of purple and blue. Its crystal structure allows light to enter the stone and divide into two or three sectors which enhances the intensity of color. Tanzanite is an alternate for December birthstones. Tanzanite Jewelry Care & Handling

Tanzanite rates a 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale and takes well to faceting – which enhances the brilliance of this highly refractive stone. Tanzanite's sparkle makes it a great accompaniment for diamonds and other precious gems. As hard as an emerald, but much more durable, tanzanite jewelry should still be handled with care. Clean with a soft cloth. Wrap tanzanite necklaces, rings and jewelry in a soft cloth or keep them safely in your Ross-Simons presentation box.
