For the Home

Weekend at Home

There are tons of ways to enjoy yourself without leaving the house. From self-care practices to backyard improvements, here are five ways we're making the best of this new normal.

Pamper Yourself

“The most important relationship is the one you have with yourself.” —Diane von Furstenberg

If you've ever deserved a little pampering, now is the time. Turn off the news, put down your phone, and spend time concentrating on the most important person in your life — you. Treat yourself to an at-home spa experience. Draw a bath complete with floral-scented bath balls and relax by candlelight. Tip — practice mindfulness techniques, concentrate on the temperature of the water and the smell of the bath essentials to truly relax your mind and distract yourself from all that is going on in the world.

Get Active

“Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” —Oprah Winfrey

Staying active is important for both your physical and mental health. With Zoom and FaceTime readily available at our fingertips, lots of us have enjoyed keeping busy with virtual at-home workouts. Group classes not your thing? Try backyard yoga first thing in the morning to start off the day on a positive and active note. Create a relaxing outdoor space with wind chimes to ward off unwanted spirits and invite positive thoughts into your practice. Complement your practice with iconic symbolic jewelry.

Carry positivity through your day with these symbols of faith and strength:

Gardening

“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” —Audrey Hepburn

Longer days with brighter sunshine are begging to be spent outside. With our weekend schedules relatively cleared, we've been giving our gardens a lot of much needed TLC and attention. Whether starting from scratch or tending to a well-established field of blooms, putting the time and work in now gives us something to look forward to as our summer at home progresses. And if nothing else, there's something about stepping outside into beautiful warm weather that brings a smile to our faces. Mother nature's beauty can be appreciated all day long with our nature-inspired jewelry.

Cooking

“Find something you're passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.” —Julia Child

With limits on dining out, your weekly at-home menu can quickly become very repetitive. Whether you consider yourself a gourmet chef or an amateur-grilled-cheese-guru, there is no time like the present to enhance your cooking skills and create your own restaurant experience at home. Set a beautiful table featuring our finest dinnerware, barware and other kitchen essentials, and anchor your table with a centerpiece of freshly cut flowers from your new garden! If the weather is cooperative, pack a picnic basket and dine alfresco with outdoor dinnerware for the perfect backyard picnic.

Organization

“Imagine yourself living in a space that only contains things that spark joy.” —Marie Kondo

Now is the time to tackle those home improvement projects that you've had on your list. When spending more time in the home, they key is to have a functional organization system that declutters your common spaces. If you're not sure where to start, we recommend starting small so as not to become overwhelmed. Why not begin by organizing your jewelry? At Ross-Simons, we have various stylish yet impactful jewelry organizers. With your jewelry properly organized and safely kept, it's much easier to remember what you have when looking to create your next stylish look. We're confident you'll feel so productive that you'll be ready to move onto a bigger space. Next, try your purse with a versatile purse organizer to keep your life in order.

Let's get organized:

Conclusion

“When you own your breath, nobody can steal your peace.” —Unknown

Set a one-minute timer and practice taking deep, controlled breaths.

During hard times, it's understandable that frustration and anxiety may build up. Our best piece of advice is to take a deep breath and, as much as possible, let go. Find a quiet, soothing space in your home and use this time to release tension. Using a watch or a timer, set one minute aside and practice taking long, slow deep breaths. Breathe in positive thoughts, and on each exhale, release any negative energy. This is our favorite way to start and end each day.
