Cubic zirconia is a mineral, zirconium oxide, which is very rare in nature, but can be manmade to create a brilliant gemstone with all the fire of a diamond. In fact, only a trained eye can tell a real diamond from cubic zirconia!
In the 1930s, German mineralogists discovered a naturally occurring cubic form of zirconium oxide (CZ for short), but there is no record of the mineral being found again.
It wasn't until the 1970s when Soviet scientists, looking for a new material to use in lasers and other optical applications, perfected a method for growing cubic zirconia crystals in a lab.
Cubic zirconia instantly became popular as a diamond substitute and has graced rings, earrings, necklaces and CZ bracelets ever since.
All the drama of diamonds without the high price — what's not to love! Visit the Ross-Simons' web site to see our dazzling selection of cubic zirconia rings, bracelets, necklaces and cz earrings and discover just how affordable a little luxe can be. When browsing our site for cubic zirconia jewelry, you can use the shorthand abbreviation and just type CZ earrings, CZ bracelets or CZ necklaces into the search box.
Cubic zirconia gemstones are as dazzling as any natural stone and come in every color of the rainbow. The clear, colorless stones are equivalent to a perfect "D" on a diamond's color grading scale, but can be purchased for so much less. Cubic zirconia stones are much heavier than diamonds, so their carat weights are really just diamond equivalents.
Cubic zirconia gemstones can be cut into any shape, including round, oval and princess, and are set in vermeil, sterling silver, white or yellow gold jewelry. Ross-Simons' jewelry designers use cubic zirconia to create glamorous statement pieces at prices everyone can afford. Some of our favorite CZ jewelry recreates the look of art deco designs, or look for CZ jewelry that is styled in the over-the-top decadence of the1980's.
Cubic zirconia is harder than most gemstones (8.5 on the Mohs scale), and is tough and durable. Cubic zirconia jewelry should be cleaned frequently to remove any oils that could dull the stone's brilliance. Use any conventional jewelry cleaning solution and dry with a soft cloth. Store your cubic zirconia rings, earrings, CZ necklaces and CZ bracelets in your Ross-Simons presentation box when not in use.
